Haaland joined City from Dortmund over the summer, with this being his first game back at his old stomping grounds.
The 22-year-old had a quiet 45 minutes after being marshalled by former teammate Mats Hummels and new arrival Nico Schlotterbeck.
City manager Pep Guardiola decided to change things up at halftime, with Haaland replaced by Bernardo Silva during the interval.
Joao Cancelo was hauled off for Manuel Akanji, who also joined City from Dortmund over the summer.
BT Sport cameras captured Haaland looking less than impressed on the bench alongside Jack Grealish five minutes into the second half.

City were awarded a penalty 11 minutes into the second half after Phil Foden was clumsily brought down by Dortmund midfielder Emre Can.
Haaland took and scored City’s penalty in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Brighton so it was up to Riyad Mahrez to put the away side ahead.
Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel guessed the right way however, tipping the winger’s penalty away.
