According to reports by Spanish newspaper El Mundo, Barcelona may be taking legal action after it was reported that alleged details of Lionel Messi’s contract demands from 2020 had been leaked.
Messi left Barcelona last summer due to their financial troubles – but there had also been speculation about him leaving a year prior before that with him and the club reportedly failing to come to an agreement over a new contract for the Argentine.
On Wednesday, El Mundo revealed the apparent terms of Messi‘s contract negotiations – which included private Camp Nou boxes for himself and Luis Suarez; effectively removing his release clause; and receiving €10m renewal bonuses every time he renewed his current deal.
And while Barca has yet to comment on these claims specifically, it did respond in saying that such revelations can affect players’ performances and personal life. Which is why this potential leak has them very upset indeed.
On the information published in El Mundo under the title ‘Barca Leaks, the club’s secret files’ we express our indignation at the intentional leaking of confidential and private details from ongoing legal processes which could harm both our company and its image.
On top of that, news media organisations ought to honour their reputation for ethics by not making anything about us public before it has been released – especially so far as it concerns sensitive matters such as these. For this reason we are exploring what actions we need to take.
