According to Radio Catalunya and Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona president Joan Laporta wants Andrea Pirlo to take over at the club if Ronald Koeman is sacked.
There are three main reasons why Laporta prefers the ex-Juventus head coach to Xavi and Roberto Martinez.
Firstly, Pirlo plays attacking football and it’s something Laporta would like to see at the club.
Secondly, the Italian is a big football personality and would bring character to the dressing room.
Thirdly, Pirlo is a free agent right now and it would be easier to bring him to Barca compared to other candidates.
In a way, Pirlo reminds the president of Frank Rijkaard in 2003, a rather inexperienced coach who would be a perfect fit for Barcelona.
