After suffering a bitter loss to Man United on Wednesday, Villarreal right-back spoke about Cristiano Ronaldo’s winner and said: “Cristiano Ronaldo only got one chance and… well, he’s Cristiano Ronaldo.”
There isn’t really much arguing against Foyth here. Ronaldo is one of the most clinical goal-scorers in football history and proved that on Wednesday.
Despite having a disappointing game, Ronaldo popped out of nowhere to score a 95th-minute winner for the Red Devils.
He’s now scored 5 goals in 5 appearances for United since his return & doesn’t look likely to slow down anytime soon.
Rio Ferdinand reveals what Ronaldo texted him after Villarreal win
Cristiano Ronaldo sent Rio Ferdinand a brilliant text message after starring in Man United’s 2-1 win over Villarreal in the Champions League.
Ferdinand told BT Sport: “He texted me tonight saying, ‘ didn’t play well but I knew I’d score’, and that’s the belief he has.
“The other players are feeding off it. It’s a great place to be. United’s performance today wasn’t great, it wasn’t at the level Ole wants it to be. But when you need a goal, a moment to galvanise the squad, the stadium, the fanbase, Cristiano Ronaldo steps up.
“He wants to be that guy the chance falls to. His goal record says it all. He’s there for the big moments. He’s a big part of that too.
“When you have a player like Cristiano Ronaldo, the players in the dressing room are given life. There’s a lease of life, belief, because they know if the chance comes, he will put them away.
“It gives you that ability to be relaxed. It was the biggest thing in our team. When you get under even more pressure and you can see the clock ticking, you don’t panic. We were very composed because we believed the chances would come.”
Ronaldo had a quiet game against Villarreal but popped up big time in added time, scoring a dramatic winner in the 95th minute to power United to a big win.
‘This is why I came back – I miss this club a lot’: Ronaldo reacts to Villarreal winner
Speaking to BT Sport after starring in Man United’s win over Villarreal, Cristiano Ronaldo said: “This is why I came back – I miss this club a lot.
“I have history with this club and I want to do it again, not only for me but to push the team. If we did not get the (three) points today, it would be tough to go through to the next stage.
“But now everything is possible, everything is open and we believe we’ll go through.”
Ronaldo scored a dramatic 95th-minute winner to help United record a comeback win – despite not playing well all game long.
That was CR7’s 5th goal of the season for United and also his record-setting 178th appearance in the Champions League.
