Dayot Upamecano has named FC Barcelona striker Ousmane Dembele as his favorite striker despite facing Lionel Messi in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final. played at the Lusail Iconic Stadium on December 18, 2022.
The Albiceleste managed to win on penalties after the game ended 3-3 in extra time, with Messi scoring twice during the match.
Dembele, meanwhile, suffered a shock and got bamboozled by Marcos Acuna and Angel Di Maria during the game. He was taken out by Didier Deschamps even before halftime.
Upamecano, however, was full of praise for the Barcelona winger. Speaking on beIN Sport, the center-back said (via Barca Universal):
“The toughest striker I’ve faced in defense is Ousmane Dembele, no, not Messi.” It’s Ousmane. He is very, very fast.
Dembele has once again become an important player for the Catalan club under Xavi Hernandez’s management. His fitness issues appear to have been resolved, and the player is performing and being consistent again.
He has scored seven goals and seven assists in 25 games for the Blaugrana since the start of the season.
