Villa parted ways with Steven Gerrard earlier this week after being winless in their last four games and with just two wins to their name.

According to French outlet Le 10 Sport, Amorim is also being eyed up by the Ligue 1 giants as a replacement to Christophe Galtier. The Frenchman’s contract runs out in the summer of 2024.
The report claims that sporting director Antero Henrique is preparing for life post-Galtier and is “considering” 37-year-old Amorim should they part ways with Galtier next summer. The Portuguese chief is familiar with Amorim, having spent 10 years as director at Porto.
Villa have reportedly been knocked back in their first attempt to bring Amorim to the Premier League. Being under contract until 2024, his release clause is understood to be €30m.
Speaking about Villa’s interest, the Portuguese boss said: “Regarding other clubs’ [interest], I’m Sporting’s coach and there’s nothing to say on the matter, once again.”
